PSG Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired twice late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
