Man confesses to sex offences against boys at summer camp
An individual who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two children who were between nine and ten.
The accused was taken into custody after eight children and an older person experienced illness at the location in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.
The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the next day.
She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in July 2025.
The legal representative added: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the situation, justifiably.
"They decided to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC stated objects including baby oil, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated the defendant continued to engage in the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.
"The police had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the situation.
Mrs Prior said the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the police once more.
She stated Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
